Erasmus+ Welcome Days in Ventspils University of Applied Sciences

New Erasmus+ internship and study mobility students arrive in Ventspils University of Applied Sciences (VeUAS) every autumn and spring semester from Germany, France, Spain, Greece, Turkey, Poland, Macedonia and other countries. Within the Erasmus+ framework, VeUAS has established close cooperation with numerous foreign higher education institutions, for example, international Balkan University in Macedonia, University of Deusto in Spain, KTO Karatay University in Turkey, Ionian University in Greece and many others. At the beginning, students mostly were coming from language related study programmes of VeUAS partner institutions. However, now the majority of students wish to take a semester or the whole academic year in the Faculty of Information Technologies and Faculty of Economics and Management. The applications from Turkey, Germany and Macedonia have skyrocketed within the last year – students from these countries made up the lion’s share of the Erasmus+ student community in VeUAS. The importance of an international perspective and new cultural nuances is receiving more and more acknowledgment with the rising number of foreign students becoming a part of the university life.

In order to facilitate the integration of international students into the university’s environment, help them navigate in the university premises and meet people, VeUAS organises welcoming events at the start of every semester. This spring, from February 5 to February 8, it took the form of “Welcome Days” – a string of introductory events, during which the new students participated in an orientation game, taking a ton of selfies and receiving VeUAS memorabilia afterwards, gained substantial knowledge in an informative seminar, became closely acquainted with the university’s library and the opportunities on its offer, as well as visited the Ventspils Youth House and got to know more about the possibilities for students in Ventspils.

VeUAS Erasmus+ programme is funded by the European Union. More information on the Erasmus+ programme is available on the website of the State Education Development Agency under Erasmus+ section and on the Erasmus+ programme website
