Leading Researcher PhD Anton Vasyunin Joins the Team of VIRAC Astrochemists

Through the access to European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) funding and support of the Ventspils City Council, the Astrochemistry research group of Ventspils International Radio Astronomy Centre (VIRAC) is expanding and, in April, will be joined by Dr. rer. nat. Anton Vasyunin, one of the most highly cited researchers, who has previously worked in the research groups of professor Tomas Henning, Eric Herbst and Paolo Caselli of such prestigious research institutions as Max-Planck-Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics, Max-Planck-Institute for Astronomy in Germany and University of Virginia in Charlottesville, United States.

Dr. Vasyunin acquired his Master’s degree in Ural State University in Ekaterinburg, Russia, and his PhD in astronomy in Heidelberg University, Germany. Dr. Vasyunin’s scientific fields of interest include numerical simulations of chemical evolution of interstellar contours, chemical processes in the ice on the sides of dust from Earth’s surface and interstellar space, chemistry of complex organic molecules in ray-forming regions and stochastic approach to numerical modelling of chemically reactive systems. Dr. Vasyunin has previously worked with students, carrying out research projects under his supervision.
