Ventspils University College lectures are assisted by Fulbright Fellow


Ventspils University College (VeA) has added Fulbright scholarships awardee, USA citizen, Meredith Chait, for the new 2015/2016 school year.

Meredith Chait (25) is one of three 2015 Fulbright scholarships winners who will be assisting English lecturers in Latvia. This is one of Fulbright’ s programs, within which scholarships acquirers teach English as lecturer/teacher assistants in some of the universities or high schools. Meredith Chait received a bachelor’s degree in International studies and a bachelor’s degree in Journalism, along with studying Swahili and History at the University of Kansas. In addition to teaching English, the awardees will also take on a secondary project in their field of interest. Chait will assist English lecturers/teachers to teach English to Ventspils University College Faculty of Translation Studies students, as well as the State of Ventspils Gymnasium No.1 students.

Ventspils University College will host two international conferences


Participants of two international conferences will gather at Ventspils University College (VUC). Among the participants one will find experienced scientists, new scientists and students involved in scientific work from different countries. VUC’s satellite antennas are placed back on its supporting towers

Ventspils University College (VUC) is proud of it's Radioastronomy center and 2 satellite antennas RT- 32 and RT- 16 that were renovated this year. RT-16 was placed back on its supporting tower on July 29, but the bigger antenna, RT-32 was placed back on its supporting tower already on June 10, 2015.

Experts from the VIRAC ERI VUC participated in a unique event – the observation of an asteroid.


On the night from 15 February to 16 February experts from the Ventspils International Radio Astronomy Centre of the Engineering Research Institute of the Ventspils University College (VIRAC ERI VUC) participated, using the radio telescope antenna RT-32, in a unique international event involving the observation of a relatively small (20x40m) asteroid 2012 DA14, flying by the Earth at a record setting distance of just 27,700 km.
