Summer School “The Latvian Language in a Multicultural Environment”

From July 29, 2018 to August 11, 2018 Ventspils University of Applied Sciences  in cooperation with Liepāja University is organising the summer school ‘’The Latvian Language in a Multicultural Environment’’ that is primarily aimed at Master and Doctorate level students who have some existing knowledge of Latvian as a foreign language.

The aim of the summer school is to promote the multi-faceted cultural environment of the Latvian language, giving students an opportunity to learn in an authentic environment about the usage of the Latvian language in a multicultural world, and explore parallels and interactions with other contact languages and cultures.

Programme (PDF)

The program of the summer school will include theorethical and practical classes, Latvian language practicums and discussions about these topics:

1)       Usage of Latvian in different contexts:

-           every day (spoken texts);

-           economy and government institutions (technical, administrative and legal Latvian);

-           fiction (including Latvian in translation) and media;
